The coaching staff will decide by Friday, Aug. 31, if Carson Wentz is starting.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t give you a lot of time to find a quarterback to stream in Week 1.
If you don’t have a backup quarterback or don’t like your current backup, I have three potential starters for you.
The picks I made are assuming your league is competitive.
If Matt Ryan, Derek Carr, or Dak Prescott are sitting on waivers, obviously you need to start one of them.
But if they aren’t, these are the three quarterbacks I’d take a chance on…
Quarterbacks to Stream if Carson Wentz Is Hurt, No. 3: Joe Flacco
Vegas expects this to be a low-scoring game with the Over/Under at 42.5 points.
The Buffalo Bills weren’t friendly to quarterbacks last season, allowing an average of just 12.5 Fantasy points per game.
But Flacco could still put some Fantasy points on the board and buck that trend if you’re in a pinch.
He has some new weapons to test out in Michael Crabtree, John Brown, and Willie Snead, and the Ravens are going to try and get out to a fast start in this game.
Remember, Flacco had an average of four performances of 300 or more passing yards per season from 2014 to 2016.
I’m not saying he’s going to throw for 300 yards in Week 1 against the Bills, but just remember that he’s capable of it.
Quarterbacks to Stream if Carson Wentz Is Hurt, No. 2: Mitchell Trubisky
Again, if you’re in a more competitive league, he might be on another team.
But if he’s not and Wentz is hurt, Trubisky could help you out in Week 1.
Last year against the Green Bay Packers in Week 10, he had his best performance of the season. He completed 21 out of 35 passes for 297 yards. He also threw a touchdown pass.
The Over/Under is 48 with the Packers expected to win by nine. With a questionable rushing attack for the Packers, this game could entirely revolve around Aaron Rodgers throwing the ball.
If the Packers start pouring it on, that could be great for Trubisky’s Fantasy production. He would have to constantly throw the ball to keep Chicago in the game.
Quarterbacks to Stream if Carson Wentz Is Hurt, No. 1: Andy Dalton
The Colts have a “bend” but don’t “break” mindset on defense. That means an offense could drive all the way to the red zone, but if the Colts don’t allow any points or just a field goal, they consider that a victory.
That’s a good thing for Dalton.
He can push the offense down the field, so he can rack up a lot of passing yards.
And with A.J. Green, Tyler Eifert, John Ross, Joe Mixon, and Giovani Bernard to target, he also can find the end zone.
The “bend” but don’t “break” model may not work against the Bengals in Week 1.
Vegas set the Over/Under at 47.5. That’s not the highest projection of the week, but it’s also not the lowest.
They expect a decent amount of points to be scored in this matchup.
