The odds were stacked against Nick Mullens, but he had a successful NFL debut in Week 9.
The 23-year old quarterback completed 16 out of 22 passes for 262 yards. On top of that, he also threw a touchdown pass to George Kittle, Pierre Garcon, and Kendrick Bourne.
By the end of the night, Nick Mullens racked up 22.2 Fantasy points.
Now, for Week 10, Kirk Cousins and Deshaun Watson will be on a bye week. That means some Fantasy players are looking ahead and trying to find a streamer at the position.
Should that be Nick Mullens?
Here’s what you need to know…
Starting Nick Mullens in Week 10
If you’re researching whether to start Nick Mullens in Week 10, the best place to start is looking at the matchup.
The San Francisco 49ers are squaring off against the New York Giants. This season, the Giants have allowed the 13th-fewest Fantasy points to quarterbacks. This isn’t going to be the easiest of matchups, but Mullens also isn’t facing a stout defense.
He has solid weapons in Kittle, Marquise Goodwin, and Garcon to get the job done.
There was also a nice offensive balance for the 49ers in Week 9, with Raheem Mostert, Matt Breida, and Alfred Morris combining for 143 rushing yards. That took the pressure off of Mullens, as he didn’t have to do everything himself.
So far, it looks like the 23-year old quarterback has a decent matchup and the weapons to have a relevant Fantasy performance.
But the next step is to evaluate if there are any other quarterbacks on waivers who might be worth starting in Week 10 instead of Mullens.
If you need to stream a quarterback in Week 10, I like Andy Dalton (owned in 54.9% of ESPN leagues) and Alex Smith (owned in 48.9% of ESPN leagues) better. Dalton and the Cincinnati Bengals are playing against the New Orleans Saints in Week 10. The Saints have allowed the third-most Fantasy points to quarterbacks this season, and Dalton has had a few big games in 2018. This could be the next one.
In Week 2, he hung 26.6 Fantasy points on the Baltimore Raven, and he scored 24.8 Fantasy points in Week 4 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Smith is facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 10, so I’ll just leave it at that.
The Nick Mullens story is a fun one to watch, but there are better options for Fantasy players to target at the quarterback position.
